The Full Story

After seasons of discreet minimalism, the statement coat makes its comeback, in nuanced shapes and with vintage-inspired details.

Of all the garments in one’s wardrobe, a coat’s functionality is paramount. It's why we so often end up with a black wool overcoat or puffer—which all do a fine job of keeping you warm, but leave you cold if you are looking for style. This fall, it’s all about outerwear that makes a subtle statement. It could be something with a big, plush shearling or faux-fur collar, or a swingy peacoat in a retro color, or an instantly collectible burnished leather number. Or take a classic, such as the camel-hair Polo coat, and remix it with a belt or other unexpected accessories. Winter can be a long season, but a statement coat lets you own it in style.
